Chrismas Carol--good but a little scary!!

I took my nine-year old son to see A Christmas Carol over the Thanksgiving weekend. He loved it! He had just read the book and really enjoyed seeing the play. My seven-year old son is a bit timid and, after seeing the play, I was glad I had made the decision to have this be an outing just for my older son and myself. Given that this is a children's play, I was surprised that they made some of the ghosts so scary. Honestly, the ghost of Marley even startled me! He's incredibly scary-looking and there's loud crash sounds, blinking lights, smoke and strobe lights while he's onstage. There were several kids that started crying when he appeared. The mom in front of us had to take her two daughters out of the theater for a while while he was onstage. They came back after a while but left again when the ghost of the future made his entrance. He looked like the grim reaper and was on stilts on top of it so he was enormous. More smoke, scary sounds and lights with that ghost, too. I just think they could have dialed the creepiness down for those two ghosts. It was scarrier than it had to be and just wasn't necessary. My older son didn't mind it at all and thought it was quite funny that so many were getting scared but I felt bad for those that did get scared and know that my seven-year old would have been among them.

A Christmas Carol above all else!

Have seen "A Christmas Carol" several ways, animated on television and now the theatre; was indeed a treat. All ages were present and seemed to enjoy. One performer was familiar to me...Bryan Austin. He went to school with my niece and I also had the priviledge of having Bryan in a "Discovery Month" venture of Lewis & Clark for the children at Great Bridge Intermediate School while he was a student at GBHS drama department. I was impressed back then with Bryan and even more so after watching his performance this past Saturday, along with everyone else in the cast. The play was definately a "go see" by the entire family.

Don't waste your money

For anyone who really does not know this story I suppose an hour long play on it is OK...but if you have ever watched any of the Christmas Carol movies, even the Muppets, you will be sorely dissapointed in this. The acting is questionable, Tiny Tim is plated by a girl...as is the young boy who gets the prise turkey...the chains Marley wears are plastic and the acting does not protray their "heavy weight" and they skipped major parts, like Scrooge eating gruel when Marley comes, his colleagues "dishing" him after death, Bob's other two children, boy I could go on and on...and besides the story that is poor, the actors seemed hurried in the lines and songs they do speak as if they would miss a train! All in all.....don't bother to go.
